But let's first see the progress on my illustrated book!
I have maintained the work schedule that I discovered last week: working on small progress during the week, and keeping the longest step for the weekend. Which again, worked surprisingly well!
I could have done a fourth sketch if I really wanted to, but I preferred to rest and enjoy my little free time.
That is not going to be detrimental anyway, as there is only one and a half sketch left: One is a repeat of the very first one, most of what will change is the colors and lighting, so that makes it very easy to deal with.
I'm holding back until next week to celebrate and show you the whole set of sketches I have done, but needless to say that I'm super happy with how the challenge went.
The drawing will need some work after that, like improving some character design and composition, but this is a very big milestone. This feels real now!
I also can't wait to go into the next big step: Writing.
This brings a lot of questions, especially about the tone of the book and ultimately how it's going to be presented.
I think it's safe to compare it to a children's book, but not a bedtime story: since the main character is around 12, she might be a bit too old for such. I want the ideal reader to be the same age, and the writing needs to reflect that.
And at the same time, I want the book to be enjoyable for adults who want to appreciate the art; so that's gonna be a interesting balance to find!
That's why I want to share the first draft with you as soon as I have something readable, just to know if I'm going in the right direction.
I'm making art that I love, but I want it to speak to you as well :)
